AAOE Coding Camp
Offered in collaboration with the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)

Does Your Coding Competence Equal Your Coding Confidence? Now in its eighth year, Coding Camp takes place concurrently with the Academy's Annual Meeting as part of the AAOE course offerings. These intensive sessions are designed to enhance participants' knowledge of appropriate coding and documentation in order to receive proper reimbursement.


How to register for Coding Camp
Members and non-members will need to login in order to register for Coding Camp.

Go to the login help page:
  • if you are an Academy or AAOE Member and do not remember your login
  • if you are a nonmember you must create an account in order to login

Once you are logged in, go to the main registration information page and click the registration link under the Registration and Housing Open section. On the next page, scroll down on the right until you get to the 'Coding Camp' section. Add Coding Camp to your cart. Like last year there are two, three hour Coding Camp courses — one basic and the other presented at an intermediate /advanced level.



Coding Camp for Beginners
8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Event code: CAMP1
Registration Fees: $185 Early (deadline Aug. 4); $205 Pre- (deadline Sept. 22); $235 Onsite

Synopsis: A must attend course for all new ophthalmologists, technicians and coders; or as a refresher course to make sure experienced physicians and staff know the current rules. This course will address:
  • Basics of CPT, Category II and Category III, HCPCS, and ICD-9 selection;
  • Modifiers in detail;
  • Special testing services, unilateral vs. bilateral, documentation requirements;
  • Guidelines for E&M and Eye Codes;
  • CMS rules and regulations to make sure your claims are paid correctly the first time.

Coding Camp Intermediate/Advanced Course
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Synopsis: This intensive 3-hour session will be of value to physicians, as well as to administrators, billers, coders, office managers and other ophthalmic medical personnel, all of whom should be well educated on coding protocol. This Coding Camp will empower the entire coding team with information on the newest rules and regulations for documentation. With coverage on all subspecialties, participants will learn to code exams, special testing services and major and minor surgical procedures.

This course is taught at an intermediate/advanced level.
